urology

Urological conditions often represent the type of problem many people are embarrassed to talk about…even with their doctor. It might help to know that urologists specialize in the male and female urinary tract, as well as the male reproductive system. They understand your concerns. Don’t hesitate to seek help because we have the urological specialists you may need.

The Urology Clinic at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital is fully prepared to diagnose and treat all urological conditions. Board certified physicians offer exceptional experience delivered with patience and understanding so that you feel as comfortable as possible discussing your symptoms and concerns. Our goal is to make it easy to receive the treatment you need for these issues, right here in your region.

The Urology Clinic is open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. For more information, or to schedule an appointment, please call 828-766-1670.

Urology Services
Blue Ridge Regional Hospital’s urological services provide complete medical care to children and adults. Some of the most common conditions we treat include:

  • Urinary tract infection
  • Overactive bladder
  • Kidney stones
  • Kidney disease
  • Urinary incontinence
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Prostate disorders
  • Interstitial cystitis (chronic bladder inflammation)
  • Pediatric conditions
  • Cancer of the bladder and prostate

Urological Surgery
Conservative medical treatment is usually the first step in urological care. However, some conditions may require surgery. Qualified and experienced urological physicians perform traditional and minimally invasive procedures in the Surgery Department at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital, such as:

  • Kidney stone removal
  • Cytoscopic and ureteroscopic procedures
  • Bladder surgery for incontinence
  • Prostatectomy and cystectomy
  • Erectile dysfunction surgery
  • Surgical treatment of cancer

Urological Emergencies
Most urological conditions are not an emergency and you may schedule an appointment during regular clinic hours. However, some conditions are serious and demand immediate attention to prevent potentially serious complications such as damage to the bladder or chronic kidney failure. If you experience any of the following, call your doctor or go to the Emergency Department immediately:

  • Sudden inability to urinate
  • Severe lower abdominal pain
  • Distended abdomen
  • Nausea or fever
  • External inflammation or pain
