The Pain Clinic at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital offers diagnosis and treatment by a board certified physician with more than 15 years of pain management experience. We focus on one very important goal…reducing or relieving your pain. We want to help you return to as normal a lifestyle as possible, so we develop a personal plan that fits your treatment goals and may include non-medical intervention, medical management, or a combination of the two.

Pain Management Treatments
The treatment you receive will be tailored to meet your unique needs and, when possible, begins with non-medical interventions. However, our staff and physicians providing services within the clinic are qualified to deliver diverse therapies designed to eliminate or reduce pain, including:

• Physical therapy – includes therapeutic exercise and diverse techniques such as massage, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation and ultrasound.
• Medications – anti-inflammatory, pain relievers, muscle relaxants
• Injections
• Fluoroscopic guided procedures
• Radiofrequency ablation
• Nerve blocks

We will be able to make the most of your first visit to the clinic if you take the time to read and follow the following instructions.

Important Information for Your First Appointment

• Register for the clinic. The first time you come to the clinic, you will need to register at the hospital. Tell the clerk at the reception desk that you are there for the Pain Clinic and they will direct you from there.

• Complete and bring the questionnaire. Patients who are visiting us for the first time need to complete a questionnaire that asks in-depth questions about your pain history. If your referring physician did not give you this form, please stop by the clinic to pick one up. The doctor will not be able to begin your examination until he has reviewed this information, so we can accomplish more at your first visit if you complete it before your appointment.

• Send x-rays or MRIs to our office. If you had any diagnostic procedures performed somewhere other than Blue Ridge Regional Hospital, please make arrangements for them to be sent to the clinic.

• Have a dedicated driver. Please come to the clinic with someone who can drive you home. A pain relieving procedure may be performed at your first visit, so a driver should be available.

Please be aware that your first visit will be the most lengthy because the doctor encourages questions and will take the time to answer your questions, teach you about your problem and create a treatment plan.
