orthopedics

Orthopaedic conditions announce their existence in ways that should never be ignored. Swelling, bruising and pain are common symptoms that frequently limit your ability to move and live life. Don’t wait to find relief. Skilled orthopaedic care is available in two locations in your region.

The board certified physicians of Blue Ridge Orthopaedics bring years of experience to their practice. Prepared to diagnose and treat all conditions related to the musculoskeletal system, they offer individualized care that may include medical treatment, surgery or a comprehensive rehabilitation program. With two convenient locations, and surgical intervention and rehabilitation available at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital, you have access to all the orthopaedic care you need close to home.

To schedule an appointment at either the Spruce Pine or Burnsville location, please call 828-765-8200.

Is this an emergency?
When you call during office hours, the staff at Blue Ridge Orthopaedics will assess your condition and schedule an appointment as quickly as possible. However, some injuries require immediate treatment. If we’re not in the office, please go to the nearest Emergency Room if you have any of these symptoms:

  • Swelling, severe bruising or bleeding
  • Intense pain
  • Inability to move the affected body part
  • Bone puncturing through the skin

Orthopaedic Patients
We treat patients of all ages who have an issue occurring in their muscles, bones, joints, ligaments or tendons. Some of the most common orthopaedic conditions our patients experience include:

  • Tendonitis
  • Sports injuries
  • Arthritis
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Sprains, tears and fractures
  • Pediatric conditions such as bow-legs
  • Spine and back issues
  • Bursitis
  • Knee pain
  • Hand conditions

Orthopaedic Services
Our specialists are qualified to provide the full range of medical treatment and surgical procedures as needed for your orthopaedic condition. Following a thorough examination that often includes diagnostic imaging such as x-rays, CT scan or MRI, we develop a personal plan based on your age, the severity of your condition and treatment goals. Treatment may begin with rest and application of hot or cold compresses. Your condition may also require:

  • Casting, splinting or special appliances
  • Injections to treat pain, inflammation or other underlying issues

Rehabilitation
One of the most important tools for recovering from orthopaedic conditions, or following surgery, is a structured rehabilitation program to ease pain, rebuild strength and improve mobility. If you want to get back in the game, or simply back to living a normal life, rehabilitation is the path to follow.

Our orthopaedic physicians work closely with Rehabilitation Services at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital to implement:

  • Physical therapy: Licensed physical therapists work with advanced equipment and implement hands-on techniques to maximize strength and mobility. Physical therapy may include exercise and diverse therapies such as aquatic therapy, massage and ultrasound.
  • Occupational therapy: Specially trained therapists work with you to rebuild the motor skills needed for work and daily living.

Surgery
The physicians of Blue Ridge Orthopaedics are qualified orthopaedic surgeons that bring experience to the table. We perform open surgery, as well as minimally invasive procedures in the Surgery Department at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital, such as:

  • Arthroscopy
  • Total joint replacements of the hip and knee
  • Fracture repair
  • Hand surgery
  • Foot and ankle surgery
  • Rotator cuff repair
  • Meniscus repair
  • Ligament reconstruction
